The Dreaded Deep Water Test
If
your child (or guest) is under 13, she must take the deep water test
before she will be allowed out of the shallow end of the pool. This
standard applies to all children, even if a parent accompanies the child
while in the pool.
The Deep Water Test is as follows:
-
Swim one lap in the deep end of the pool using the front crawl.
[The stroke must be strong and demonstrate rhythmic breathing.]
-
Tread water for one minute.
-
Retrieve a ring from the bottom of the pool.
This test
is for your child’s safety. Ask at the office and a lifeguard will be
happy to give the test. If your child is unsuccessful the first time,
the lifeguard will explain what your child should do to practice in
order to pass the test another day!
