"...or would you rather be a fish?"

kids in baby pool chasing goldfish "A fish won't do anything but swim in a brook,
He can't write his name or read a book.
To fool the people is his only thought,
And though he's slippery he still gets caught"

— especially if he’s being chased by dozens of Beachcomber children armed with plastic cups, each intent on scooping up a goldfish.

The Goldfish Hunt started our July 4th activities, as children under 5 years old, then 5 - 6 and finally 7 - 8 splashed around in the baby pool attempting to catch one of 500 goldfish.

When each child scooped up a fish, the BSC staff supplied them with a plastic bag so they could take home their new pet. Sales of goldfish food must have taken a dramatic jump that evening.

However, not all of the goldfish became pets. I spotted three goldfish in the pond beside the bridge. [Gee, I didn’t know that BSC had a ‘Catch and Release’ program]. If those goldfish breed with the minnows in the brook, next year we may see a new kind of jumped-up slippery fish!
