Membership Application

Dear Prospective Beachcomber member;

Thank you for your interest in Beachcomber Swim Club. As you will see upon review of this website, Beachcomber offers many activities for your family's summer fun.

We are limited to admitting 500 families for full time membership. We will have memberships available for the 2004 season. Our dues structure is shown in the application found below.

Beachcomber was founded in 1954 and is a member owned co-operative club. The co-operative controls the costs as our dues are set to meet the operating expenses.

When you join Beachcomber, you have made a commitment to continued annual membership unless you advise us your resignation within the specified periods.

When you visit Beachcomber's 20 acres you will notice the friendly atmosphere whether in the pools, on the basketball court or just sitting under our many mature shade trees. Many of us have met our best friends at Beachcomber.

Our by laws limit the membership to 500 families. There is a $500 escrow/bond required for membership. Your payment of the bond basically replaces the escrow reimbursed to a resigning member. The original members' escrow was the funding used to purchase the land, pools and buildings.

We are members of the Board of Directors and we have "volunteered" to take on the considerable work involved in membership. This is an unpaid job that we have taken on in addition to our other family and career obligations. We will have open houses each Saturday in April & May from 11 to 2 if you would like to visit before joining.

This year guest fees will be $10 per person regardless of age. We will continue to have ½ price days on Thursdays. Adults and youth members are permitted to bring in 5 guests each day.

Beachcomber is located on Rte 202 between Rte 73 and Morris Road. Our mailing address is 652 DeKalb Pike, Center Square 19422 Telephone in office (open during season) 610-272-2870. Website: www.beachcomberswimclub.org

Hours of Operation: The grounds open at 10AM. We are open weekends beginning Memorial Day - May 29th. We will open full time the weekend of June 19th and will remain open daily until Labor Day, September 6th. The pool is open from Noon til 8PM with early weekend adult lap swim. The grounds are open on Mon. Tues, Weds & Thursday until 8:30 pm and until it gets very dark in August until 9PM on Friday Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Guest Fees: Adult and Teen members may each bring in 5 guests each day. There is a $10 guest fee. Children cannot bring in guests and must be accompanied by an adult. For Birthday parties or larger groups, please check with the management staff.

Deep Water Test. Children who wish to swim in the deep end of the pool must pass a deep-water test. This test requires the swimmer to swim one lap of the pool, tread water for one minute and retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool.

Special Events: Beachcomber has a tradition of sleepouts, family dances and Leisuretime Activies. These will be announced on our website and in the Drift - our newsletter that is sent to all members.

Resignation: Please note that once you join Beachcomber you are responsible to continue your membership each year unless you properly notify us.

NO GLASS, ALCOHOL or DRUGS permitted on the property. Everyone walks around in his or her bare feet and we like knowing there is no chance of cutting our feet on broken glass. The alcohol policy originated with the Quaker farmer who sold the property to Beachcomber in the 50's and has continued as a tradition in our family oriented club.

Meals may not be eaten by the pool area. Meals are to be eaten on the lower grounds by the picnic tables.

Swim team practice and group swim lessons take place during weekday mornings. The cost of the group swim lessons is for the cost of the Red Cross material usually $10. Screening for the swim lessons begins the week of 4th of July and the lessons usually begin the following week.
