Return to Our Roots:
The Cooperative Spirit

In the mid 1950’s a group of people were sitting around a kitchen table talking about creating a place where families could play and swim and shmooz and have picnic dinners under the stars. Those people invited friends and family to help them make their vision a reality: To create a non-profit cooperative swim club. They found a piece of land in Centre Square and then began to work. They dug the foundation for the pool. They planted trees. They built a playground for children. They invested themselves: their time, their energy, their many talents.

Decades have passed; Beachcomber has grown. Staff has been hired. Life styles have changed and people’s lives have become busier. Yet the quality that makes Beachcomber a haven, unique from all other swim clubs on this planet is grounded in that spirit of cooperation. In order for that vibrant spirit to flourish, the membership needs to be active, to participate, to invest themselves like the founders of the club did over fifty years ago.

To find out the talents and interests of our current membership, we will be distributing a questionnaire at the gate. Please complete and leave it at the office. There will be a box labeled “Questionnaires.” To improve communication among members, Ron Levin has generously volunteered his time to set up a list serve for members. Please send your email address to him at RONLEVIN@erols.com.

In the spirit of cooperation,

Dena and Sherry, BSC Members

BSC Board Member Contact List

Ron, Eric and RuthYour board members take their responsibilities quite seriously. We listen to as many people as we can, and act in the club's best interest. If you have an idea for an event or an issue you'd like to see addressed, please contact Eric Fishman to join the board. We have many BSC members who serve on single-issue committees (i.e., long range planning).

Remember, Beachcomber is a co-op. Board members volunteer for their positions, and are elected to work for the good of all club members. By getting involved with the board, you further the co-op spirit of the club by adding your energy and ideas to the BSC board.

As promised, our site now has a contact list of board members, the committee(s) on which they serve, and an email contact address for each BSC committee. By sending email to, say, membership@beachcomberswimclub.com, your email will be received by all of the board members listed for the membership committee.

The Beachcomber by-laws are available for our members to read. Download them in Word Perfect, MS Word, or text format: [bylaws.wpd / bylaws.doc / bylaws.txt]

If you are a BSC member, we need your address.
Please send your name and email address to signup@beachcomberswimclub.org
